Support Afghan refugee children, one page at a time

Afghan children who have recently fled for their lives are spending their first days in the UK in quarantine and bridging accommodation. Your gift of a book right now could give some desperately-needed distraction, some education, and a start on their journey with the English language that will be critical to their future lives in the UK.

Wonderful donations!

@Usborne, your donation of first word books is absolutely beautiful. The ‘listen and learn’ books are particularly thoughtful for these children hearing English spoken around them for the first time. Thank you for your wonderful kindness.

@KidsBloomsbury, thank you so much for sending one hundred fabulous copies of your most popular titles for children – vibrant stories overflowing with colour and imagination. These beautiful gifts of joy are so greatly appreciated.

@HoopoeBooks, your incredible 189kgs donation of Pashto-English and Dari-English books for children is stunning. Thank you for this sensational kindness for so many Afghan refugee children now in the UK.  Just look at these!  Find out more about the work of HoopoeBooks at www.hoopoebooks.com

About book-relief.com

I chanced upon a tweet appealing for USB cables, toiletries and clothing needed urgently for Afghan refugees in quarantine in the UK. As a mother with young kids, thinking of those children who have fled peril now in mandatory confinement, my mind turned also to how to help occupy them during the 24/7 of these first days …

Inspiring books for children. Beautiful picture books. Universal activity books. Beginners’ bilingual books to support their first steps with the English language.

I found four online: Dari/English and Pashto/English, and sent them. I heard that local authorities would definitely welcome more. So, after reading my children their bedtime stories, book-relief.com began.
